Thanks for visiting Homestead in the Holler! Let’s talk about all things farming, gardening, permaculture, homeschooling and cooking up good food from scratch. We will educate, inspire and encourage you on your own homesteading journey.

In 2014, we moved our family of 5 to our farm in the Missouri Ozarks to pursue our dream of living a simpler life and taking responsibility of raising our own food.  We bought a run down dairy farm, in desperate need to repair.  In addition to breathing life back into our farm, we are currently building a straw insulated home ourselves.  Our house and farm are both being built up using permaculture principles.

As northerners, we were immediately drawn in by the warm locals and the comfortable, flowing speech of the “natives”.  We were especially drawn to the word “holler” as it just has such a nice ring to it.  Some may claim this is a backwoodsy area, but we feel that it is filled with good, hardworking people who know how to take care of themselves.  If that is backwoodsy, we like it.

We aim to share our journey with you.  This includes the stresses, failures, and woes but (we hope) also the successes and joys!  Please come along with us on the ride of our lives.
